Somebody I use to Know

When ever I hear this song I think of my credit cards, well my former credit cards. It’s been almost two years since my family and I cut all but one of them up. The one we have today has a modest $1000 limit. We never use it. It was a scary leap at first taking the so called safety net out from under us. We soon realized we didn’t need them, they provided short term gains for years of suffering. We use cash for everything, if we need to travel, rent a car etc, we use our debit card. We are just simply make sure we have the cash in the bank to cover our purchases. Unlike years past where we would charge it to the credit card and pay for it for years to come, we will never do that again. Here are some lyrics from the song that make me think of credit cards:

Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company

You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness

Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over

But you didn't have to cut me off

Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing

Now you're just somebody that I used to know

How do you use your credit cards?
